Group fitness classes for beginners: how to choose your first session on Palm Jumeirah
- Start with Pilates if you want to practise torso control, Full Body Stretching if you want to explore mobility, or Strength and Conditioning if you want to learn about lifting. Then check the particular session’s pace and teaching support.
- For Pilates, stretching or Strength and Conditioning, ask about the session’s pace rather than judging difficulty from the names alone.
- If you need a pause to observe or ask, favour a session whose teaching arrangements allow it.
- Ask which equipment the particular session uses, including Pilates; knowing the format helps you decide whether you want to try it.
- If the movement interested you but the pace was difficult to follow, discuss another session before changing disciplines.

Find out how you can learn while the group moves
- How are unfamiliar movements demonstrated? If you learn by watching, find out whether you can see a demonstration before joining in and where to position yourself to follow it.
- When can I ask a question? Ask what to do if an instruction is unclear while the rest of the group carries on. If you prefer to ask privately, find out whether you can.
- What happens if I cannot follow an exercise yet? Ask whether another version is available and how the instructor would explain it. A concrete answer lets you judge whether you would feel comfortable continuing with the session.
